Denny O'Neil's socially-relevant scripts, with the taut, dynamic artwork of Neal Adams (not to mention the crisp inking of Bernie Wrightson) set the stage for a more-realistic comic book, one that wasn't afraid to tackle tough subjects like poverty, racism, and drug abuse head on.
